Sean Hoey
Samuel Langhorn Clemens (Mark Twain) Resume

Occupation
I have had many occupations during my life, the most mentionable of which is as an Author and Poet. However I also spent periods of time as a printer, lecturer, steam boat pilot and for a short time a volunteer in the Confederate Army. I was also Vice President of the Anti-Imperialist league for several years.
Position on Issue
I do not believe in the concept of Imperialism, which is based on the thought process of the superiority of the Anglo-Saxon race and their duty to civilize the rest of the world whether the native people want it or not. This process does nothing more than bring on unrest, poverty, and social inequality in the countries it is implemented on. It is to my disgust that the United States wants to join in this global practice of Imperialism that is so rampant in the Super Powers of Europe. It seems to me that if America does begin to become an Imperialistic power it will contradict the guidelines given in the Monroe Doctrine to the European Countries but instead it will be on a different continent.
Reasons of Interest in Topic
Growing up in the South opened my eyes early to the atrocities that human beings are capable of under the banner of racism, and i see imperialism as nothing more than an extension of just that. In my times traveling all over Europe and the Middle East i have witnessed many different forms and kinds of discrimination but none are as organized in a large scale as the imperial system is.It is impossible for America to be a Republic and an Empire at the same time, they simply cannot co-exist. America fought the Civil War and Spanish-American War for the noble reason of racial equality but once these wars were won and the spoils in American hands our government went against the very principles we stand for.
